WhatsApp Makes Online Shopping Easier with the New Carts Feature

Businesses can display their catalogs for customers to browse and choose items, then check out via a single message

This Tuesday, WhatsApp made an announcement on their blog, saying that businesses can now add their product catalog on WhatsApp. When their customers are messaging them on WhatsApp, businesses can display their catalogs to let customers browse and select multiple products, and send their list as a single order in one message.

This new feature does not only ease the process for customers, but it enables businesses to keep track of orders and inquiries, manage requests and close sales.

Using WhatsApp carts is basically the same process as shopping on traditional e-commerce sites:

  • Tap the catalog button within a chat during a business to access its offerings.
  • Browse through the catalog and tap “Add to Cart” for items to purchase.
  • Send the cart to the business to place the order, which is not final until the business has confirmed it.
The main reason for launching this feature is because there are over 175 million people message business accounts on its platform every day, and more than 40 million view catalogs monthly, adding that a recent survey found that 68% of adults worldwide are more likely to do business with or purchase from a company that they can contact via messaging.

The new feature is going live globally now – just in time for the holiday season. Happy shopping and selling on WhatsApp!
